Our Opinion

The sand floor bars and thatched open restaurant gives a true 'no news, no shoes' feel to this island. 'Meeru' has soft white sand beaches, excellent snorkelling on the house reef and good standards in a natural setting. The atmosphere is casual, and the island is one of the larger ones with a tropical lush interior. There is a sense of space and tranquility on Meeru which is one of the Maldives larger resorts.

But because it is a larger resort, you have plenty of things to do besides the beach - have a golf driving lesson, visit the island museum, see the greenhouse where the vegetables are grown, or relax on one of the overwater treatmenty rooms in the spa.

Rooms

The Land Villas are individual pine bungalows of a very high standard, with air-conditioning, TV, tea and coffee making, minibar, and an open air shower with terrace. These are just set back from the beach, and have a village feel to them. At the front is a wide, shaded veranda with deck chairs. Inside, there is a sitting area by the window overlooking the veranda, and a dressing area which leads into the open-air bathroom.
N.B. these are the only rooms where children under 16 will be admitted

Jacuzzi Villas are similar to Land Villas, but a little larger, and with the addition of a private walled garden featuring a Jacuzzi for two “under the stars”, a wooden sundeck with chaise lounges, a shade Pavilion, and a small tropical garden. All are newly refurnished and with a four poster bed, a CD player and TV.
N.B. no children under 16

The Water Villas are set right on the edge of the beach with breathtaking sea views. They are actually built partly over the beach and partly over the sea, and have a sundeck where you can hear the waves beneath you. From there, are steps leading directly into the sea. The inside is lined with pinewood, and has a 4-poster bed plus sitting area with coffee table. A discreet, partially open-air bathroom where you can shower next to a little garden, adds the final touch of style.

The Jacuzzi Water Villas are built over the lagoon and are extremely stylishly furnished. You reach them by a short walk along a private jetty, and inside is a sitting area with DVD player, Cable TV, a tea/coffee/espresso machine, spacious bathroom with double sinks, a Jacuzzi for two, and a private sundeck with steps into the sea!

The are two romantic honeymoon suites which are the perfect place to really get away and enjoy a honeymoon is splendid isolation. Separate from the island and reached by a small boat, the luxury offered is unbeatable. As you step in the door, a cosy sitting area with kitchenette lies to one side. A big comfy sofa and armchairs invite you to snuggle up and listen to the music on the CD player. A big fridge, toaster and coffee maker allow you to make yourself the odd snack. On the other side of the entranceway lies a dream bedroom with a big four poster, dressing table and wardrobe, and leading off is a spacious bathroom with bathtub, WC and wash basin. Clean white tiles with pine trim add a touch of class. All the bungalows face the sea and have French windows leading on to a spacious sun deck and patio overlooking the lagoon. No other people in sight. Watch the fish swim underneath your bungalow at night, or step down and join them for a moonlight swim.

Cuisine

  • Asian Wok which serves Thai, Indian, Chinese and Maldivian food.
  • The Hagern Boat serves grilled seafood, beef and chicken aboard a yacht anchored in the lagoon.
  • The relaxed Coffee Shop overlooking the sea offers a wide range of snacks, ice creams, fruits and light meals. In fact, they serve breakfast until 11.30 in case you are not an early riser!
  • There are a number of bars at Meeru. The Dhoni Bar next to the coffee shop spills out onto a wooden deck overlooking the sea and has a selection of cocktails on offer. Another is the little Beach Bar which is at the tip of the island for people using the beaches overlooking the lagoon.


All Inclusive option

  • All meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner in the main buffet restaurant (or Malaan restaurant for selected room types as detailed above). Afternoon tea/coffee (excludes cappuccino), cake and sandwiches.
  • All drinks: bottled water, soft drinks, tea/coffee (excludes cappuccino), draught beer, house wine, local spirits – gin, whisky, vodka, rum NB: Bar will only be all inclusive from 10 am to 12 midnight.
  • Excursions: One night fishing trip, one sunset cruise per stay.
  • Watersports: One half hour windsurfing lesson per stay, free use of kayaks, and a one hour snorkelling lesson per day
  • Activities: Free use of gym, daytime tennis court (excluding equipment), volleyball, badminton, table tennis, billiards, football, darts, and a golf driving range lesson.

Trips and Excursions

  • Day on an uninhabited island - sail by traditional dhoni boat to the deserted island of Kagi, a tiny island with soft sandy beaches and a good house reef for snorkeling, and with a BBQ lunch.
  • Day out on a traditional Maldivian sailing boat - this is a fantastic day out with some great snorkelling opportunities. Stop at Bodu Hura where you will have the opportunity to see a typical Maldivian fishing village and gain some idea of how the islanders live. There are also several souvenir shops so you can do some shopping while you are there. Then, Kuda Bandos is an uninhabited island where there is some great snorkeling and a barbecue lunch is served. The final stop is Kani Resort where there are good facilities to enjoy before returning to Meeru.
  • Big game fishing - The Maldives is the perfect place for a spot of fishing. After all the waters here are literally teeming with fish. The morning fishing excursions take you trawling along the outer atoll, dragging a line on the surface for barracuda, wahoo and jack. Morning fishing is close to the reef, but in deep water. For night fishing they leave just before sunset and drop anchor near the reef. The relaxed fishing uses sinkers, and all you have to do is sit back and wait for the fish to bite. Big game fishing is another experience not to be missed. Using a rod, this is an exciting experience. Just wait and see who catches the biggest barracuda.
